THINKING ABOUT EAST AUSTIN

As Fusebox Festival, thinkEAST, and the Johnston Terrace and Govalle neighborhoods engage in an 18-month conversation focused on reimagining and recharging the site of an environmental brownfield in East Austin, the Fusebox team wants to invite you to join us in the process of thinking about East Austin.

For Fusebox, thinkEAST involves not only activating the arts-based development of a charette–a large, vibrant, public living room developed as part of Fusebox Festival–but also questioning and exploring how arts-based development engages with the history and cultures of East Austin, in particular that of the Johnston Terrace and Govalle neighborhoods.  Thinking East requires that we dream of how an arts-based community might take shape in East Austin.  Thinking East means that we strive to recognize and promote the skills, talents, and ambitions of the communities already living in the Johnston Terrace and Govalle neighborhoods...

City of Austin Unanimously Approves Resolution for Feasibility Study

The resolution instructs the City Manager to conduct a survey of the viability of affordability in Austin. 

on October 16, 2014, the Austin Post wrote,

Funding for thinkEAST affordable housing

"A proposed resolution would explore whether public financial support is a feasible option for affordable housing at thinkEAST, a 24-acre mixed-use district 'for Austin’s creative community.' The resolution also directs Ott to explore the feasibility of reducing infrastructure costs and development fees for the mixed-use district."

Join thinkEAST and our partners Fusebox on September 5th at grayDUCK gallery, for some free snacks, drinks, art, and conversation about the recent ArtPlace America grant, which will support the innovative planning and visioning process for thinkEAST over the next 18 months.
